William J. Baker's book "Jesse Owens: An American Life" is regarded as being one of the best biographies of Jesse Owens. It chronicles his life from his birth into a poor Southern family to his stellar performance at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. The publisher is University of Illinois Press.

I would suggest that you look into Hank Nuwer's The Legend of Jesse Owens. It is suggested for ages 9-12 but is a good read at any age.
