Comedian/actor Murray Langston created the "Unknown Comic. " He earned a cult following from appearances on The Gong Show, telling silly jokes while wearing a paper bag over his head.

The unknown comic was guy named Murray Langston. He was a stand up comedian who did a lot of TV appearances. On the Gong Show he worn a bag on his head and called himself the unknown comic. He had done a lot of other tv work including the Sonny and Cher Show and other variety shows.
