What kind of phone number would show up as "unknown" on my cell phone's caller ID?

It is just a number which the person has blocked there id. Usually it is some type of commercial organization or a a telemarketer who doesn't you to know who they are. It is a good idea to not answer it as this might increase the number of calls you receive.

I'm pretty sure that "unknown" could be an international call. The only other time I've seen this is from a telemarketer. This happened to me with Dish Network.
