The model for Picasso's painting, "Weeping Woman" was named Dora Maar. Picasso and she were lovers. He chose her face because he felt that she was, he was quoted as saying, "always weeping". Picasso painted it in 1937, in response to the bombing of Guernica during the Spanish Civil War. Dora Maar was a photographer, and a painter and poet.
