Herbert Hoover was inaugurated as President of the United States in 1929 (Calvin Coolidge preceeded him). Months after Hoover became president, the stock market crashed leading to the Great Depression.

Two presidents served in 1929. Calvin Coolidge, a Republican, was in office until March 4th, 1929. His succesor was Herbert Hoover, also a Republican.
