As new generations grow up global popularity will forever be changing. I feel that we have seen the end of the global mega star as everything is so purposefully mass produced now-a-days. I would say currently: Michael Jackson, if they have to be alive Barack Obama.

There is not really a a single answer. Some might say President Barack Obama or past President George W. Bush. There is a case to be made for dearly-departed celebrities like Michael Jackson, Elvis, or Princess Diana. There are also a myriad of athletes, entertainers, politicians, and business folk who could contend for the title.
