The founder of Buddhism was an Indian price by the name of Gautima Sidhartha. He was a wealthy member of a royal family in a part of India about 500 years before the birth of Jesus. Sidhartha renounced his riches and became the first Buddha. He is said to be the first to achieve enlightenment.

The Buddha, birth name Siddhartha Gautama, was the founder of buddhism. He was born in the 500s BCE, as a prince of a small principality in India. It was foretold at his birth that he would be either a conquerer or a great spiritual leader. When he grew up, he achieved enlightenment and proclaimed the "eightfold way" to nirvana.

Siddartha Guatama, known as Buddha is the founder of this religion. The word Buddha is not a name it has a specific meaning-one who is awake. The religion was founded over 2500 years ago in northern India.
