Griffin was an author whose most famous writing was the book entitled "Black Like Me." To prepare for this book, he turned his skin darker so the he would experience first hand the segregation of the south. Most of Griffin's writing were on the subject of racial equality.

He was a journalist. In 1959, Griffin, who was white, disguised himself as a black man and traveled through different segregated southern states t. He wrote a book about his experiences during this time, called Black Like Me. The book was made into a movie in 1964. Griffin died in 1980 from diabetes.
