Ouija boards became popular in the mid 1800's as a parlor game. Modern Ouija boards were updated and patented by William Fuld. He eventually sold the patent to Parker Brothers.

The Ouija board, talking board or spirit board, came about in the mid 1800's. There were many variations and many different people who claimed to have invented it first. 1901 William Fuld patented the name Ouija, claiming to have been it's inventor. These boards were always just considered a game.
