"Greatness" is a matter of opinion, of course, but any list of great Southern writers would have to include William Faulkner, Tennessee Williams, Flannery O'Connor, Eudora Welty, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Mark Twain, and Zora Neale Hurston. Some other candidates for this list would be James Agee, Harper Lee, William Styron, and Robert Penn Warren.
