Three states have no income tax - New Hampshire, Florida, and Texas. Idaho has a 7%+ tax rate on incomes above $6,000. This makes Idaho relatively expensive. (Massachusetts is 5.3%.) Idaho has COUNTY property tax. Rate depends on where you live.

Kiplinger has a good article about taxes by state. It's aimed at retirees, but it gives lots of information about states with no sales tax or no income tax.
