First you have to assess what type of person you are, active, lazy. Then decide on size based on your living quarters.

How much can you afford a large dog eats more and needs more exercise. A smaller variety of dog does not need as much exercise and less food to eat.

I would recommend going on line and searching for dog breed matches. You need to keep in mind the size of your yard or walk area, the amount of time you want to spend grooming and exercising the dog, and how much you want to spend on food per year.

This is hard to answer with out any information on the person. Without having background on how much activity the person will want to engage in with the dog, no clear answer is available. Many breeds have a guideline of temperament, but some do not follow this. Just find a dog that clicks with you.

Base your decision on how much time you can devote to the dog. Some smaller more hyper dogs need more emotional attention and play time with you. Short hair dogs are less messy. If you have children in the house be sure to chose a relaxed, gentle and patient dog.
