Where was the first Wal-Mart store opened?

The first Wal-Mart store was opened in Arkansas. It was located at 719 Walnut Ave. (Rogers) and was opened on July 2, 1962 by Sam Walton. It was one of the first discount and retail shops in the US and in five years Walton had opened already 24 stores. Today his stores serve annually around 170 million consumers world wide.

Sam Walton opened the first Wal-Mart store in 1962 in Bentonville, Arkansas, which he bought as a franchise from another company, and called it Walton's Five and Dime. On 2nd July 1962 the first proper Wal-Mart was opened in Rogers, Arkansas. Within five years the company had expanded to 24 stores in Arkansas with a turnover of $12.6 million.

The first Walmart was opened in 1962 in the hometown of Sam Walton, Rogers, Arkansas. Walton's first store was called Walton's Five and Dime. The company did not open stores outside of Arkansas until 1968.

The first Wal-Mart was operated by Sam Walton in the city of Newport. The store was very sucessful due to the mix of products Sam choose to sell together. As such Wal-Mart has grown into a powerful decision maker for all of us.

On July 2, 1962, Sam Walton & his younger brother James L. "Bud" Walton opened the first "Wal-Mart" Discount City store at 719 West Walnut street, Rogers, Benton county, Arkansas 72756. In 1962, the brothers owned about sixteen discount variety stores in Arkansas. Wal-Mart later incorporated on October 31, 1969.
