Hiccups are caused by a muscle spasm in your diaphragm. Your diaphragm is in the trunk of your body and when it spasms, that is the sensation that you feel as a hiccup. It is similar to any other muscle spasm, like in your arm or something, you jsut feel it differently.

Hiccups comes when you eat too fast. I suppose it has something to do with a gullet, but I'm not sure about it. When you eat too fast or don't chue your meal properly.
