The sciatic nerve runs from the lower back, down the buttock, and into the leg. Sciatica is caused by the compression of nerves in the lower back. Particularly, it is caused by compression of the lumbar and sacral nerves, which could be due to a herniated disc, misalignment of the vertebrae, or disc degeneration.
