Your sciatic nerve runs from your hip to your foot, along the back and inner side of your leg. It starts at the front of your spine and goes down past the hip joint, where it is vulnerable to compression and other injuries.

Your sciatic nerve runs from your lower back, through your posterior down the back of each leg. Sciatica can cause pain, and weakness in the legs. Ibuprofen or other anti inflammatories can help with the pain. Ice may also help. If the nerve is compressed, leaning against a wall with a tennis ball at the site of compression may help.

There are two nerves in the body on each side. Each nerve begins as five nerves (L4, L5, S1, S2, S3) from the lower spine. The nerves bundle together at the piriformis muscle (at the buttock). The nerve goes down each leg and branches off into the leg and foot.
