Where is the world's deepest mine and what is mined there?

The deepest mines in the world are in South Africa and, unsurprisingly, they are gold mines. Currently the actual deepest is TauTona, which goes down 2.4 miles (3.9km) after it was extended in 2008. Before that it was the East Rand Mine near Johannesberg at 3.5km.
