Madeira is situated in the atlantic ocean north of the Canary Islands.It belongs to Portugal and the capital city is Funchal. It is a volcanic island and, therefore very mountainous. The beaches have black sand. The main harbour is very deep enabling large ocean liners to dock there. Madeira wine is well known.
