where does the word garage come from?

The word "garage" originates from the french word garer which means to shelter. It entered the french language officially in 1901 and appeared in an english dictionary around 1902.

The word "garage" is derived from the French word "garer" which is regarded as being from the Norse. Garer means "dock" as "to dock" your car.
