Cubensis and other varieties of "magic" mushrooms thrive in humid, warm regions of the southeast United States. They will only grow in cow dung where the cattle have not been fed commercial feed as fungicides have been added to kill the spores. Deadly mushrooms grow here also.

If by magic, you mean hallucinogenic, then the answer is on horse or cow poop. They are usually present after a hot humid rain.

There are over 180 species of mushrooms that contain Psilocybin, the active ingredient. They grow all over the world. Be very careful when picking them, as they have many poisonous and deadly lookalikes!

they can grow in tufts of grass, about medium height. Most likely after a pretty nice rain. When it is warm and humid. Most likely in places where it doesn't sno in winter, but rains instead. most likely under oak tree's.
