Rock City is a tourist attraction on Lookout Mountain outside of Chattanooga TN. Natural rock formations reminded visitors of a town. From 1936 to the 1950s owner Garnet Carter had Clark Byers paint "See Rock City" on over 900 barn roofs from MI to TX in a unique advertising campaign.

In the mid-1930's barns were painted with the slogan "See Rock City" as roadside advertising. Property owners were offered free tickets to the park in exchange for having their barns painted with these now-famous words. Several of these barns have now been designated historic landmarks.
