The knock sensor is located on the intake manifold near the throat of the engine. It is a small Hex shaped device with wires attached.

There are several types of the Knock sensor , It varies on the model and the year manufactured. The knock sensor can be found on the driver side close to the intake plenum, that looks like a bosch connector. It is bolted and safe but can also be replaced by removing the intake manifold.

The Knock sensor on the Nissan Maxima VG30 are located in the engine valley beneath the intake manifold. Looking from the drivers side look under the intake plenum and look for the bosch style connector. The sensor is secured by one bolt and replacement usually involves removing the intake manifold.
