Any department store will carry formal jackets. Macy's in particular has a great selection of formal clothes. Bring the dress with you and tell them at the door that it is your own clothes. Try on every jacket you think you might like before you buy it. That way you won't make a mistake and have to bring it back.

Try finding a formal jacket in a resale shop. Many people don't even wear the clothes and the tags are left on so they are new. A bridal shop has many options that lean towards formal and don't look wedding specific. Another source would be clothes used in the film industry. They are used lightly and have little wear.
