It is recommended to have a DNC nearly immediately after a miscarriage to ensure that any fetal and placenta tissue that can remain behind be removed to eliminate infections.

I think you should have a DNC after every miscarriage unless you lose the fetus very early in pregancy. The DNC will help to keep infection out of your uterus and your tubes.

After you have a miscarriage a DNC is needed if you don't bleed out when you have the miscarriage . A DNC will clean out and scrape all of the excess tissue left over. Also if tou have a miscarrige late in pregnacy after the first trimester, a DNC will be needed.

Your doctor will advise you of this. A D&C may be done after a miscarriage to make sure all the tissues that were growing for a baby are gone.

If you have too heavy of bleeding, signs/symptoms of an infection, if you are passing larger clots, you might need to follow up with a DNC after a miscarriage.

A D&C is performed after a miscarriage when your Uterus doesn't expel all of it's contents like it should. You should see your doctor if you think you need one.

Some doctors will recommend you miscarry naturally. However, if you have not miscarried completely after several weeks, your doctor will recommend a DNC to prevent serious infections.
