There are no ferns called red ferns but there are ferns with reddish color in them. When soil feels moist, water from bottom and mist leaves occasionally.

According to the children's book, only an angel can plant a red fern, but luckily we can grow them! This actually a Maidenhair Fern. It needs a consistent environment in indirect light with a watering tray below the plant to allow humidity to rise. Keep soil constantly moist.

Often, ferns need a lot of water as they are naturally occuring along stream and river beds and in marshy areas. I would water it at least one time per day to ensure proper hydration for this plant. Ensure they have plenty of shade, and if a lot of sun, water often.

Your best bet is to keep the plant out of direct sunlight because it will cause the soil to dry up pretty fast. Since red ferns need for the soil to be moist at all times you will wan to water the plant either first thing in the morning, or in the evening.

Ferns grow in moist places, so you need them to be placed in a shaded and moist area otherwise it will not live for a long time. if you place it in a pot you must often water it in order to retain the moist environment for it to survive for a long time. Keep the soil constantly moist.
