When people think God talked to them, was it really just their conscience?

Belief in God is a very personal thing and people describe their experiences in different ways according to their upbringing and the conventions of their family and culture. In some religions people believe in the "still small voice" of God which could indeed be equated with their conscience.

For some individuals it could be their conscience telling them what they should and should not do. Others who strongly believe in God probably did hear His guidance.

There is no empirically demonstrable answer to this question. God wants us to be our best, so it is clear that God's word and our conscience would coincide. But in my own experience,the times when I have directly felt God speaking to me have been messages that totally surprised me.

Many scientists will tell you it's only our conscience, while those that experienced it will often tell you it was something beyond that. Currently there is no way of knowing and even if scientists believe they can answer the question with medical explanations, people will still believe what they chose to believe. If God exists, he would communicate somehow.

Possibly, we can never truly be sure. Even if it is God, one must be sure to always take responsibility for what they do and the choices they make in their lives. God has given us free will to say and do as we please. "God told me to" just doesn't cut it.

This is a question that depends on both of our beliefs. I can't say for sure if god speaks to us or not; therefore I can't answer this with certainty. However, I believe that when I follow my instinct it's god moving through me.

yes, it really just their conscience. the Romans chapter reviled that our conscience himself a witness. our spirit himself a witness with our spirit that we are children of god.
