He is still perfectly fine and acting like normal. Friends say I shouldn't worry--that they'll grow back.

You may want to clean the wound with soap and water just to limit the amount of bacteria exposure. The nail should grow back on it's own.

It sounds like the rabbit was involved in some type of accident. Take the rabbit to the vet. Something could be seriously wrong with him.
