When did the Romans arrive in Britain?

The small tribes of the Brittish Isles were no match for the tens of thousands of Romans who invaded in 43BC. The goal of the Romans was to expand their empire and by 60AD they had contol of most of Southern Britain. As they strengthened their domination, the Romans built roads and expanded their control.

The Roman conquest of Britain began in AD 43. Through to the 5th century Britain was rules by the Romans. Britain was known as Brittania back then. The Romans have contributed to agriculture, industry, architecture and urbanisation.

They first went to Britain in 55BCE under Julius Caesar. They engaged in battle because the Britons had helped the Gauls in their fight against Rome.

Julius Caesar first conquered Britain in 55 B.C. Claudius conquered it and stayed to build cities in 43 A.D. They founded Londinium, now London. They built many towns, Hadrian's wall, and turned it into a Roman province.
