The highjacker told people his name was "Dan Cooper. " The press called him "D. B. Cooper. " The FBI feels that "Cooper" did not survive the jump. An instruction placard (1978) from the plane and $6000 in deteriorating $20 bills (1980) were found along the Columbia River near the projected drop zone. The investigation continues.
As the Cooper case has not been resolved the only certain answer one can give is "he disappeared". It is commonly believed, however, that Cooper did not survive his jump.
No one knows for sure what happened to D. B. Cooper who parachuted from a jet on 11/24/71 after he hijacked it and received a $200,000 ransom. No body was ever found but police feels he died in the jump attempt.
