Sudden joint pain may be caused by a fracture or dislocation. If there is a fever involved , it may signify an infection. If there is swelling and pain, water retention may be involved. The majority of the time, the cause is arthritis. The pain may also be due to more serious diseases; see you physician if the problem persists.

Infection, arthritis and strain top the list of sudden joint point causes. If the pain is serious for more than three days, consult a physician. Rheumatoid arthritis and Lyme disease are also possible causes. These conditions may be temporary or a symptom of something more serious involving a neurologic problem.

Many different conditions can cause sudden joint pain such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, bursitis and gout. These aren't as serious as other causes like lupus, fibrolmyalgia and osteoarthritis. It could be a symptom of something serious and the best advice I can give you is to talk to your doctor so he or she can determine the cause.
