the number one cause of black toenails is a fungal infection that was let get out of control. When its not treated right away the fungus can kill the toenail. Could also be a severe bruise or blood dried under the nail

Your black toenail can be caused by one of two reason. The first reason being trauma to the toenail. When trauma to the toenail occurs, blood pools under the toenail causing the blackened discoloration. The second, and most common reason, for this discoloration is a fungal infection.

There are several causes for black toenails. The most common are traumas (injuries) to the toe and nail fungus. If you press on the toe and it doesn't hurt, it might be fungus and then you just need to go to a pharmacy and get an anti fungus cream.

Your toenail is either bruised or you may have a fungal infection. Rub with neat tea tree oil. This will help get your toe nail back to its original color and stop the fungal infection.
