I think the number one cause of dark urine would be dehydration. If you do not have enough water to dilute your urine it will appear very dark. There are a variety of foods and vitamins that change the color of your urine while you are getting used to them.

It's definitely worth seeing a doctor if you're experiencing dark urine. Although it's probably something minor like an infection, dark urine can be an early symptom of kidney failure.

Dark urine can be caused by dyes in foods and drugs. It can also be caused by dehydration. Certain foods can cause dark urine too. A liver disorder, like hepatitis or cirrhosis can also cause a dark urine color. Another cause for dark urine could be a urinary tract infection.

Dehydration, melanoma, bleeding in the kidney, liver problems, the presence of blood mixed in with the urine, or statin drug side effects are just some of the many causes. Consulting with a physician for the purpose of quickly identifying the culprit and getting treatment is highly recommended.
