What would cause a rear window defroster to stop working all of a sudden?

it could be something as simple as a fuse or something more complicated such as a break in the demister coil that sticks to the window , if the latter is the case you would most probably need to buy a new adhesive coil as i doubt the can be soldered

The first thing you should check is the fuse. That's the cheapest and most common problem to fix. Also check the switch or button for the defroster. If it's the defroster grid itself, you may want to go to a repair shop.

Check the fuse of the defroster. It may be worn out. Check the connection at the window. There may be not enough electrical contact.
