What would cause a beard to grow on a woman?

Could this signify a hormone imbalance, or is it normal for some women to have light facial hair growth?

Beard growth on a woman is characteristic of hormone imbalance. This extra facial hair growth is sometimes called hirsutism, and is often caused by an increased production of male hormones call androgens. Although all women produce androgens, women with facial hair produce an excess amount of these hormones. Beard growth can also be caused by polycystic ovary syndrome.

A beard might grow on a woman if she has to much testosterone in her body. Some women experience this when they go through menopause since you loose estrogen.

Facial hair can be caused by a hormonal imbalance, but not always. Many women do not get any facial hair until they are post menepause. Other women have the occasional wisker hair. Many brunettes have soft dark facial hair, this is the reason many wax their upper lip. It depends on the density and frequency of the hair.

If the growth is abnormal, it is due to hormone imbalance. But normally, slight hair growth is observed among very fair ladies which adds their beauty but if the facial hair growth exceeds the limit, it requires a consultation with a cosmetologist who can give the right advice.
