What wine makes the best Sangria?

Any wine that is fruity and does not have much tannins. Red wines with elevated levels of acidity are also recommended. Garnacha and tempranillo varietal wines are best for sangrias. White wines should be used to temper the quality of any red wine used.

I have tried many different kinds and personally I am fond of chardonnay, but that is my favorite wine. Lately, I've been expirementing with different wines and I've found that a nice blush zinfandel makes for a nice sweet Sangria. My most recent discovery, and possibly my favorite, is to use the very cheap Arbor Mist Sangria or Blackberry wines.

Usually a light, fruit farward wine like those made from young Garnacha or Tempranillo varietals. Red or rose wines are equally well suited.

It is a total individual taste. I find that the heavy wines like Merlot and Cabernet do not make good Sangria as they drown out the fruity over tones. I suggest a light Pinot.
