Mud stains can best be removed with an oxygen based cleanser. OxiClean brand (powder or liquid) is a great stain remover or you can use a generic brand or even plain hydrogen peroxide. Be sure to test a non-conspicuous area first! Soak the pants for a least fifteen minutes then run through a wash cycle.

Use oxy clean. All stains, mud or not will be removed by rubbing the oxy clean into the problem spot.

First, brush off the loose dirt. Then rinse thoroughly. Get a stain stick or other stain remover and rub it generously onto the stain. Let it sit overnight and wash with bleach.

Get a stain removing product from your local retail store. Shout works really well. Put it directly on the mud stains and let it soak in for about 30 minutes to an hour before you wash them. Just make sure that you do this before you wash and dry them.

You can get mud out of your son's baseball pants by first rinsing in water several times. Dip in washing powder and allow it to remain for sometime. Then rub it with brush and rinse again two three times.
