Depending on the cause and severity, it may be sufficient just to prescribe iron supplements. SEVERE anemia may require a transfusion. Anemia can be a symptom of underlying health problems. In that case, it's necessary to fix the anemia AND the underlying cause - which may involve other specialists.

The most radical measure would be some regimen of erythropoietin preparations(for example from Amgen. Bicyclists use this medication for doping, as it increases oxygen supply. Normally, iron preparations wil be prescribed.

Treatments for anemia vary. A lot depends upon what is causing the anemia. Common treatments include medication, vitamins (the so-called "iron pills") and changes in diet. Frequent blood tests are also likely to be part of any treatment plan.

they will look for the cause of the anemia and then try to find a treatment based on the cause they may also prescribe more iron or b vitamins if the anemia is related to a vitamin deficiency.
