Pernicious anemia is diagnosed by testing vitamin B12 levels in the blood and results due its deficiency in the body. It can cause neurological symptoms. Other symptoms include fatigue, weakness, loss of appetite, pallor, unsteady gait, and shortness of breath. It is easily treatable with monthly vitamin B12 shots or giving high dose of vitamin B12 by mouth.

As the name implies it is an anemia that continues over a lengthy amount of time and is not resolved with simple blood trasfusions. It unfortunately is usually a sign of greater problems and needs to be check out by a Hemotologist (blood disease Specialist)
