The Vietnam war began on September 26, 1959 when the Vietcong attacked two South Vietnamese companies and concluded on April 30, 1975 with the fall of Saigon to North Vietnamese troops. In truth, several Vietnamese organizations had been fighting several foreign occupiers (French, British, American, Chinese, and Japanese) to various degrees since Indochina was colonized by the French in 1859.
