Early New England games were the basis for many of the current games we play today. Quitos was an early variation of horse shoes while ninepin was an early version of bowling. Lacrosse, learned from the Native Americans, also became a favorite of the settlers.

There were no manufactured toys during that time period and children were busy with work and study but leisure time was used to make homemade toys like yo-yos, kites, little wooden figures and toys made of corn husks, apple dolls and simple rag dolls. Games were played with other children.

Some of the colonial games are the same games that children now play. Which are tag,hopscotch,hide-and-seek. Other games the used to play were contest games for example: The childern would see who could carry the most wood back to the farm or they would sing there multiplication tables out loud.

quoits was popular throughout the colonies with children, nine man's morris was played by both children and adults as was draughts (a form of checkers).
