The geography of the New England colonies is full of rocky soil and and mostly hilly landscapes. Because of this, the farming is more subsistent rather than large scale farming. The climate of the New England colonies was colder than the other colonies. The climate and geography of the New England colonies helped allow for an increasingly healthier population.
