What were living conditions like during the American Civil War?

Living conditions for soldiers, particularly Southern soldiers who had less supplies, were very difficult. Long, intensive marches across difficult terrain, inadequate supplies and medical care resulted in many non-battle related deaths.

Everyday living during the American Civil War was not easy. Soldiers had to live with being inadequately fed, clothed and housed, and almost without any common comforts.

life was harsh. it split families. brothers fought brothers ob the feild. women had to fill in for men as the went to war. many people suffered.
