We only consider pitches that were recorded by an official with a calibrated radar, not an imprecise radar in a stadium scoreboard. By that standard, the fastest pitch in the MLB was 100.9 mph by Nolan Ryan of the Angels on August 20, 1974.

according to ESPN in 2004 Billy Wagner threw a pitch that was clocked at 107 MPH fyi MLB does not recognize radar gun speeds as accurate enough to accurately record a world record speed. But according to Guinness Book the fastest pitch was pitched by Nolan Ryan on August 20, 1974. This pitched was clocked at 100. 9 mph

Earlier this year, on July 23, 2009, a pitch was thrown at 105 mph in the metrodome. The metrodome is home to the Minnesota Twins, but the pitch was thrown by the opposing pitcher, Joel Zumaya of the Detroit Tigers. More impressive, the pitch came in the 10th inning!

According to the Guiness Book of World Records, a pitch by Nolan Ryan was registered on a radar gun at 100.9 miles per hour in 1974, a record which is still in the book. However, there are many conflicting reports on the accuracy of this record. Bob Feller is claimed to have hit 107 mph in 1972.

For everyone who said that Zumaya threw the fastest at 105, he actually threw it at 104.8 (small difference I know) but Aroldis Chapman threw 105

The scariest pitch ever was thrown by chris scott. he throw a curveball so nasty it went all the way around the batter and catcher, hit the first basemen in the head and killed him. Chris was instantly thrown out of the league. Youtube it. "chris scott kills team mate"

This kid is bad. I saw the whole thing. I was on second base. I felt bad for Finnegan, but then again his life was never that good anyway, and he shouldn't have been standing their in the first place. Finnegan always was a little simple.  add a comment
