Pocahontas was the daughter of Chief Powhatan. Settlers captured her and brought her to Jamestown as a prisoner. They wanted to use her as leverage for English prisoners held by the Indians. John Rolfe met her and the two were married. He married her to establish peace between the white men and the Indians.
