Susie King Taylor was born near Savannah, Georgia, and is famous for her autobiography entitled "Reminiscences of my Life in Camp". She is also known for her efforts to promote the rights of African Americans. She started life as a slave herself, but escaped that to become a tireless nurse, educator and activist.

Susie King Taylor was born in 1848 in Savannah, Georgia. She was known for being the first Afican American nurse who served in the army. She also wrote a memoir about her experiences in the army.
