What was school like for the Victorians?

Many children of working class families were not able to prolong their education beyond 8th grade as they were required to help financially at home. Education beyond 8th grade was a privilege usually relegated to the upper classes. Boys were educated generally beyond the basic education girls received. More boys went to college than girls.
