They are the original place of the finger sand which, designed to allow the ladies to eat and not mess up their gloves. They also served scones and a variety of other small cookies and crackers.

At a Victorian tea party, you would find elegant snacks that go well with tea. These would include things like watercress sandwiches, scones, orange marmalade, lemon curd,Russian tea cakes, petit fours, small quiches, tarts, and the like. You would use fairly nice dishes and silverware,if possible.Nice clothing should be worn--no sweatsuits or t-shirts.

There are a variety of finger sandwiches that the class can make. Nut bread with creme cheese, ham salad or egg salad on crustless bread, but in strips, cucumber with watercress on white crustless bread. China decorative cups and saucers, white linens for table. A small vase with one flower for the centerpiece and of course a China Tea Pot.

You would find teacups and saucers that are nicely decorated, as well as little sandwiches and pastries. Most likely the table would be decorated with vases of flowers and baskets of other cookies and tea kettles too.
