Your stove should have a plate on it somewhere that lists the voltage and amperage of your stove. This will help you determine wire gauge you need. 8 gauge is for 40 amps at 60 degrees Celsius and 6 gauge is for 55 amps and 60 degrees Celsius.

The wires that are used most when installing a cooktop are either the 8 gauge wire or the 10 gauge wire.
