What tribes were a part of the Sioux Nation?

The Sioux Nation had fourteen tribes, which were part of three larger groups, divided geographically and linguistically. The groups were the Lakota, which comprised of the Oglala, Sicangu, Hunkpapa, Miniconjous, Sihasapa, Itazipacola and Oohenupa; the Santee, which comprised of the Mdeakantonwon, Wahpeton, Wahpekute and Sisseton; and the Nakota, which comprised of the Yankton, Upper Yankton and Lower Yankton tribes.

The Lakota, the Dakota, and the Nokota were all part of the Sioux Nation. The Sioux (among others) were the tribe that defeated Custer at Little Big Horn.

There were three main groups of the Nation: the Lakota, the Western Dakota, and the Eastern Dakota. In total there were seven tribes. Of the Lakota: the Northern, Central, and Southern; of the Western Dakota: the Yankton, and the Yanktonai; and of the Eastern Dakota: the Santee and Sisseton. Many of these tribes are still existent today.

The tribes that are part of the Sioux nation are Mdewakton,Sisseton,Teton,Wahpekute,Wahpeton,Yankton,and Yantonai.The word Sioux is actually an Oujibuay word and Sioux only use it when they are speaking English.
