The most important thing is to fit in as many drawers of very different sizes as possible. If you are on a tight budget, consider leaving the corners empty, the corner solutions make a kitchen expensive and are mostly awkward to use. Do not get any appliance without checking the energy efficiency. Consider a fridge with 0 degree area.

Make sure that your space is all used as efficiently as possibly. A kitchen can have every gadget in the world, but if there isn't any space, it doesn't mean much. Think about hanging things from the ceiling, like baskets for garlic or potatoes. You could even build hanging spice racks or shelves for extra pots and pans.

Always start the floor plan ahead of time and make sure the location of your sink, oven and fridge are conveint, close but not next to each other.
